Summer time is just about here so here are some good tips for taking care of your skin and looking your best all summer long.
Unsurprisingly the first item on the list is wear sunscreen! You don't have to wear the highest SPF available because sunscreens only last for about an hour and a half before you need to reapply. Don't be worried that wearing sunscreen will keep you from getting tanned. Sunscreen is meant to keep you from getting burned, which is not only uncomfortable but also unsafe for your skin.
Don't just rely on clothing as cover. Experts say the average clothing only provides an SPF of 8, which means you still might get burned under your clothes.
Make sure you get all the little spots of your body with sunscreen. I routinely forget about my part in my hair and have gotten sunburned there. Trust me, it is really hard to pull off a cute hairdo when your scalp hurts from a sunburn!
Use non-comedogenic products in the summer. With all the sunscreen, sweat and sun time, skin is often greasier than normal. Non-comedogenic products won't clog your pores so you can be blemish free.
Keep moisturizing! Sunburns, sunscreen, chlorine and many other common summertime products can dry out your skin so keep up your moisturizing routine but maybe switch to a lighter moisturizer for the summer.
Exfoliate and shave at the right times. Both of these activities can leave you with more sensitive new skin exposed, which leaves them more prone to a sun burn and razor burn in the case of shaving. So exfoliate in the evenings when you aren't getting ready to head out into the sun and shave several hours before heading out the door.
As you start to get a sun kissed look, change your foundation color to a slightly darker tint. Very few people can pull off wearing the same shade in both summer and winter so make sure you pick the right tint for you for the right time of year to avoid having a too-pale or too-dark foundation mask that looks unnatural.
With more oily skin in the summer, use a primer before applying makeup and carry blotting paper to take care of excess oil throughout the day. Primer will keep your makeup in place and even looking even if you happen to get a little sweaty throughout the day. And blotting paper helps you touch up on the go so you don't get shiny areas throughout your day.
Wear a lip stain. Lip stains are lighter on your lips and won't come off if you start to sweat.
Wear your hair up and keep it off your neck. Stay a little cooler and avoid sticky, frizzy hair later by keeping your hair up and off your neck where it might get sweaty or caught up in sunscreen. Just remember to put sunscreen on the back of your neck!
Wet your hair before going into the pool or ocean. Seems a bit weird right? Well wetting your hair first means you choose what water your hair gets saturated with, which means you can keep too many chemicals from getting absorbed into your hair. This keeps your hair looking its best all summer and not getting too brittle towards the end with chlorine damage.
